About KillingintheKitchen
How did you get your start in music? Did you come from a musical family?
I come from a very musical family. Both my uncle and grandfather play instruments, my grandfather actually gave me my first guitar. I grew up dancing and doing theater, which is where I found my love for songwriting and music.
Who are your musical influences? How do they impact your music?
My musical influences include Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, Noah Kahan, and Olivia Rodrigo. They are all so lyrically talented. I get a lot of songwriting inspiration from listening to their music.
What made you decide to pursue music?
I think my passion for performing influenced me to pursue music. Once I started writing songs at age 15, I couldn’t stop. Now at age 22, I've performed all around the Orlando area and share my love for music with others.
What was one of your biggest obstacles in your music career? How did you overcome it?
I would say finding the confidence to put myself out there. It’s such a scary concept but I knew I had to in order for people to discover me. I have really bad anxiety sometimes, so it took a lot for me to finally reach out to places to perform and meet other artists, but I am beyond grateful that I did.
How do you stay inspired to write music? Have you experienced writer’s block? If so, how did you overcome it?
I’ve found that I can’t force myself to write music. When I force myself to write a song, I can’t come up with anything. Sometimes I’ll get random inspiration and the song will flow out. This year I'm trying to write 100 songs as part of a TikTok challenge and that’s been helping a lot with my songwriting.
What is your writing process?
I wouldn’t say I have a necessary process, it’s more of when inspiration strikes. I get a lot of inspiration from listening to other artists or just real life scenarios.
Being an independent comes with many setbacks as one would try to succeed in the industry. What do you do to keep your motivation?
I’ve dealt with a lot of setbacks and rejection while trying to get my name out there in the industry. I just have to remind myself that some opportunities aren’t meant to be and that there’s more opportunities waiting for me.
How do you think the entertainment industry can improve for women musicians to flourish their talent and career?
Something that is very apparent in the music industry is the comparison between artists. I think if we continue to support and uplift our fellow women musicians it can bring more positivity to the industry.
If you could give any advice to an aspiring musician, what would it be?
Never give up. Even when people try to bring you down or spread negativity, just keep being yourself and pushing through. You are more than other people’s words about you. The universe has a plan for you; don’t give up.
What project or music can we look forward to in the future?
It’s still in the works, but I am hoping to release my debut album in the near future, so keep an eye out!!
